All About

A little bit about me: For three years, I had a Summer job that saw me traveling all across the Maritimes, from Yarmouth to Bathurst to Summerside. I've had the pleasure of seeing a lot of New Brunswick, in particular, on foot, effectively walking between the three main cities (Saint John, Moncton, and Fredericton), and along the majority of the perimeter. Working away so much means eating out a lot, and seeing some interesting sights along the way. In my third year doing this, I figured it would be a good time to start blogging about some of the more interesting sights and tastes of the region. In the years since, I've had summer jobs that involve less travel and more office time. That, combined with being a student outside the region most of the year, had slowed down the pace of reviews quite a bit. Now in the third year of keeping this blog (and accompanying twitter! Follow me!), the focus is shifting to be a more general look at the Maritimes. Don't worry though, I'm a huge foodie, so restaurants are always going to be part of this blog :) What's the timeline on this blog? I want to make sure that all of the great things I can think of make it on here- but I also want to make sure the memories are fresh. Wherever possible, I'll be re-visiting restaurants and sights I've previously gone to in order to ensure my reviews are up-to-date. When I can't get somewhere again, I'll make sure to let you know that I was there a few years ago, and I'll only post what I can remember. Reviews and stories will appear in clumps at a time, based off of something in common that reminds me to write about them. So, for example, if I go to Moncton, I might write about something from this year and from last at the same time. Most posts will be on the weekends. What form are the posts in anyway? I don't like straight-up reviews. Things are more interesting in story form. I'm endeavoring to give my reviews wherever possible in story forms, so that they're more interesting. I'm going to avoid posting places that I didn't like or wouldn't recommend- although I reserve the right to post reviews about particularly bad experiences, and to mention any issues or negative features of a good experience. I want to keep things positive and constructive. Most posts will be about restaurants, but you'll also find features on local culture, cuisine, sights, and other thoughts I may have. So, what's in a name? You hear it all the time "New Brunswick is a drive through province". You get on the nice, empty highways, mostly cruising through forests. If you're lucky, you stop only two or three times for gas or lunch before hitting Nova Scotia or PEI. As a result, New Brunswick tends to be known as "No Funswick" Once upon a time, I felt that way. But at the end of my second year of seeing so much of New Brunswick, I just couldn't believe it. When you cruise down that highway, getting out of here as quickly as you can, you miss so much. The world's highest tides, the Hopewell Rocks, the foggy shores outside Saint John and the beaches and culture of the Acadian Peninsula. So I decided to share what's at the end of those exits on a blog. This isn't just about NB, though. The name is inspired by what people say about this province, but I think there's still a sentiment that applies to all of the Maritimes, and I wanted to share a different side, a more local viewpoint on tourism. As someone who loves the Maritimes, my goal for this blog is to show you why. Where's the background picture from? Currently, it's from Prince Edward Island. Once upon a time I'd wanted to change the photo frequently, but I actually like the look it gives the blog. Did you say twitter? Well, I didn't say it, but I certainly typed it in a description above! Follow me @notdrivingthru and let me know what you think of my blog.
